When summer approaches, we first have in mind to enjoy a lovely day at the beach. And it is a relaxing and refreshing walk, being in front of the sea waves, swimming for pure pleasure, and enjoying the sun on our skin. But before enjoying a sunny day, we must know how to take care of our skin when exposed to the sun.

The presence of the sun in our life is significant and sunbathing brings us many benefits, such as vitamin D, just as the sea provides us with trace elements and minerals. However, if we do not take proper care of ourselves, the sun can become one of our worst enemies.

Everything in excess is bad, and long exposures to the sun without proper care can leave important consequences on our skin as burns. So if you want to enjoy your vacation and the benefits of the sun, but at the same time keep your skin healthy, you should follow these tips:

The first thing you should do when packing to go to the beach is sunscreen. This product will become your ally to take care of your skin. The sunscreen will protect you from UV rays, which can trigger serious problems such as skin cancer if you overexpose yourself to the sun consecutively and without protection.

Ideally, it would be best to opt for a sunscreen with a sun protection factor (SPF) 50 for skincare. In addition, you should also use lip balms with SPF to protect your lips from mild sunburn. Other essential elements that will help you take care of your skin are the use of umbrellas, a hat or cap, a bottle of ice water, and moisturizing cream.

Taking care of your skin after a day at the beach

Just as you already know what you should consider for skincare before going to the beach, you should also know how to take care of your skin during and after sun exposure. So, of course, the first thing you should do when you get to the beach is to apply sunscreen, but besides that, you should avoid being in the sun for more than 15 consecutive minutes.

Dermatologists always recommend choosing a shady spot on the beach. But if your goal is to achieve a nice tan, you can alternate short periods of sun exposure and others of shade. The important thing is to stay out of the sun between 12 noon and 4 pm, the ideal time being between 7 and 11 am.

After spending the day at the beach, you should continue with skincare. As soon as you get home, it would help if you started with a good cold shower, then moisturize your skin with a moisturizing lotion, which can be an after-sun product or a moisturizing body cream.

An excellent option to keep your skin healthy after a day at the beach is to exfoliate it. The idea is not to do it immediately after arriving from the beach, so you can do it the following day. You can take sea salt and mix it with a bit of avocado, oatmeal, aloe vera, honey, or egg, and create a mask with which you will gently exfoliate to remove dead skin. Then cleanse with warm water and finally moisturize your skin with body cream.

Remember that to have healthy skin, you have to take care of it. That is why you should always be aware of it and give it the necessary attention and care.
